About
I started as a print designer in New Zealand, moved to San Francisco, and spent fifteen years designing software for people with complicated jobs: government clerks, enterprise teams, the people who deploy AI for others.
At Granicus I brought user-centered design into a govtech company. At DesignMap I led research-driven work on complex B2B products. At [24]7.ai I led design for the tools teams used to build and deploy conversational agents, and built content strategy for conversational AI before most companies had a word for it.
In 2018 I stepped away to run a family real estate portfolio. That made me the end user of every operational headache I used to design for: maintenance, vendors, outages, compliance, and stakeholders who need clear decisions, not spreadsheets. So I designed and built the system to run it, and brought AI into the workflow along the way.
Now I'm coming back to product design full time, with a simple belief that's only gotten stronger: the people closest to the work deserve tools that are fast, safe and obvious.
Writing
Model before pixels
Why mapping what users believe a system does is the fastest way to design it well.
Prototype to decide
Paper, Figma or working code: use whatever gets a real answer fastest.
Restraint
The simplest interface that does the job, and why every extra element has to earn its place.
